Restoration of Ventura Bomber

Currently the Ventura Bomber is located in the WW2 hangar at the Darwin Military Airport. There was an agreement with the RAAF to restore this plane to a display standard. Unfortunately the RAAF have withdrawn their support. They are only willing to help us return the plane to Gove.

Restoration of ELDO Tracking Station

The tracking antennas have been moved from ELDO tracking station (now the GARMA festival site) to the historical precinct at the old control tower Gove Airport. We are waiting word from the DSTO (Defence Science Technology Organisation) in South Australia on the availability parabolic dishes.

Restored Bow Fighter Cockpit

The Bow Fighter restoration has taken place. The historical society is trying to source money to purchase the cockpit window material. After that it will be relocate to Gove by land transport to be housed at the historical precinct. If you want to sponsor some funds for this project please contact us.

Gurumuru Wreckage

Peter Manning and David Suter carried out aerial photography on this area in October 2006 with a view to locating the crash site using references in the book called "33Days"

Control Tower

Discussions are under way with Mike Hindle of CEO of the Nhulunbuy Corporation with the view of having this area give over to the Historical Society. Discussions are still ongoing, we hope to know something by early 2007.

Medical Facility

The association has purchased a brass plaque to be placed on a rock that will be supplied hopefully by ALCAN. Along with this plaque will be road signage and a display sign. Sign off has been given by the Northern Land Council for this project.

Rolf Harris in Arnhem Land

The Rolf Harris paintings have been disassembled and we are trying to find a carpenter to assist us in their full restoration. All volunteer carpenters apply within!
